Non-Minor Dependants

Independent Living Program

  1. El Shaddai FFA will encourage all non-minor dependent's to attend the Independent Living Program (ILP) at Yuba College. This program addresses a wide range of topics that assist NMD in preparing for independent living which include but not limited to: budgeting, finding employment, interview process (presentation, dressing appropriate, being prepared, and how to follow up) how to search for an apartment, educational goals/college, cooking skills, computer skills, personal rights, drug and alcohol education, how to search and hot to receive financial support and educational scholarships.

Obtaining Personal Documents and Drivers License 

  1. El Shaddai social workers and foster parents will assist the non-minor dependent in obtaining the proper paperwork i.e. social security card and birth certificate from the county placing agency.
  2. El Shaddai social workers and foster parents will help the non-minor dependent in obtaining a California Identification Card and or a California Drivers License when appropriate.

Employment

  1. El Shaddai FFA will encourage the non-minor dependent to find employment that is appropriate for the individual, this will include but not limited to: assist non-minor dependent in job searches and filling out hob applications, driving the non-minor dependent to job interviews, transporting the non-minor dependent to the job site once employment is secured or assist in establishing a transportation plan i.e. public transport or purchase of a car when non-minor dependent personal funds allow.
  2. El Shaddai FFA will assist in management of personal funds and establishing a savings and checking account.
  3. The non-minor dependent will be encouraged to utilize the Yuba County One Stop for training and potential job searches.

Education

  1. The non-minor dependent will have support in completing high school and or GED.
  2. The non-minor dependent will be encouraged to enroll in college classes that are appropriate for their individual developmental needs and personal goals.

Transitional Supports

  1. El Shaddai FFA will assist the non-minor dependent in developing an Exit Package when appropriate. This Exit Package will include but not limited to: pots and pans, cooking utensils, flatware, towels, bedding, small appliances such as a toaster, mixer, blender, etc. This will be purchased with the non-minor dependents personal monies with their approval, donations, ILP funds and agency gifts.
  2. El Shaddai FFA will assist the non-minor dependent in meal preparation and budgeting for monthly food costs. The non-minor dependent will be required to assist in grocery shopping, meal preparation, clean up, menu planning, coupon collecting and application, and safe food handling.
  3. El Shaddai FFA will assist in finding and procuring automotive liability insurance and registration should the non-minor dependent obtain a vehicle. The automobile insurance will be purchased by the non-minor dependent unless the foster/resource family agrees to assist financially.
  4. El Shaddai FFA will assist in finding the non-minor dependent a cellular phone should the non-minor dependent obtain employment and can be financially responsible for the phone bills.
  5. El Shaddai FFA will educate the non-minor dependent on information regarding personal identity theft, credit scores, and how they affect interest rates and future purchases, personal investments, and planning for the future. El Shaddai FFA will educate the non-minor dependent on HIPPA regulations and the importance of personal privacy.
